Please make sure you have backups of anything in your student folder on the GCC or Pong servers. These do get erased every summer and winter break, although if you are taking any CFA class the following semester, your folder will remain.
Did you know that you have unlimited space on your Bradley email’s Google Drive? Store whatever you need there, long or short-term. Easy sharing and collaboration with whomever you choose.
Do you use “connect to server” to mount share points on the GCC server? Have you recently upgraded to OSX Yosemite? If so, read on.
Apple’s newest operating system release, OSX 10.10 Yosemite, changed the connection protocol from AFP to SMB. Why is this important? Because in the case of the GCC server (gcc.bradley.edu), only AFP connections work. And if you just type “gcc.bradley.edu” into the Connect to Server dialog box, it will default to SMB. So in order to connect to the GCC server successfully:
- Click Go>Connect to Server.
- Type afp://gcc.bradley.edu and hit Return
- Enter your BUNETID credentials
- Select the share point you wish to mount
Interactive Media students: pong.bradley.edu accepts both AFP and SMB connections, but we are getting reports that it is rejecting all connections. We are looking into this at the network level. For the time being, if you are unable to connect, try forcing it to use AFP by typing afp://pong.bradley.edu and see if you get different results.
SFTP is now up and running again. A permission error on the server caused the problem. Whoever you are that reported the issue, thank you, and let me know if you have any further problems.
Someone recently submitted a trouble ticket regarding SFTP issues… your contact information was accidentally truncated from the ticket. Please re-submit it or email me directly at email@example.com. Thanks!
SFTP is definitely down right now… We are working on the issue.
The Color Printer is back to processing prints at full speed. Please submit ALL color prints from your laptop.
The issue was due to a network firewall slowing the print data. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
If you need assistance installing the printer you can find the instructions for OSX and for Windows.
There is a network related issue that is causing the new color printer to print very slowly (add it to your laptop here).
Be prepared to wait 5 to 10 minutes for your print.
We are working with IRT to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Are you using Apple’s Pages, Numbers and Keynote instead of Microsoft Office? There’s nothing wrong with that, but make sure you are familiar with how to export standard Microsoft Office files using Apple’s applications. This is very important if you are using Pages, Numbers or Keynote to generate electronic files that will be turned in to a PC-using instructor outside of our little corner of the University. Take a look at this page and read over the procedure. It’s pretty easy.
Still got questions? Drop us a line about it (or any issue) at our trouble ticket page.
Welcome back for the fall semester. Student folders have been created for all students taking any course in the Communications and Fine Arts college. If you add a course late and need a folder created, fill out our trouble ticket form. Please remember that folders on the student share point are there for your convenience only and should only be used for temporary storage, NEVER for your only copies. The drive on the server is not backed up, and folders for students not continuing coursework in CFA will be deleted at the start of the next semester.
Additionally, storage of copyrighted material in publicly viewable folders is prohibited. Such content will be deleted without warning. For a refresher on what your student folder is, how to connect to it, and which folders are public, please visit this page.
The HP5200, which is the black and white printer in the Service Bureau, is back up and running. Please do not print to the color Xerox printer unless you need (and will pay for) color prints.
We’ve been having some problems with the share points on gcc.bradley.edu the last few days. It may be related to recent elevated use of SFTP. Until further notice, SFTP access is disabled. If you don’t know what this is, it does not affect you. Performance for AFP (normal) connections to the GCC server should hopefully improve.
Student folders have been bulk-created for Spring of 2014. Any student currently enrolled in any CFA class (COM, MUS, THE, ART, or IM) has a folder for convenient storage of files. See more about it and how to connect here. Please remember the following when utilizing these folders:
- Anything in your named outer folder is accessible from the web. To that end, do not store anything you don’t want the world to see in this folder. That includes copyrighted songs, videos, or personal files. Such files will be deleted without warning. Repeat offenders will be referred to University disciplinary procedures.
- The Students share point is not backed up. Do not use it to store your only copies of anything. We cannot retrieve inadvertently-deleted files.
- Your folder will stay on the Students share as long as you are enrolled in a CFA class. It will be deleted without warning when you graduate, leave the university, or are not currently enrolled in a CFA class. We usually run the scripts that clean out the Students share point the week before each semester starts, but don’t gamble on when that will be. Keep local copies of your stuff.
- Please keep your storage use reasonable. If you are using too much space, you may be asked to reduce your usage. If you ignore the warning, your files may then be deleted for you. What’s “reasonable”? Depends on how much space is left on the share point. Rule of thumb: if you think you might be using too much, you probably are.
Any questions or problems, including “I don’t have a student folder but I think I should”, please contact us.
File sharing on the GCC server failed sometime today. It is now back up. Sorry for the outage.
HD animated graphics for popular social media sites have been added to our Footage Firm collection. And if you want to take them apart to see what makes ’em tick, there are After Effects templates for them too. See them all in our Resources share.
More music from Footage Firm has been added to our production music library. New titles include Cinematic Sounds, Funk And Soul, Night Life, Romantic Melodies, and Urban Thriller. This ain’t your grandpa’s production music here… there’s some really fresh, modern cuts in just about every style you can think of. Additionally, authenticated web access to our Resources library (and also our Tutorial library) has been restored. Enter your BUNETID and password when prompted. You can also access these files directly on your Mac via AFP, which is the better way to do it, really.
Stock footage from Footage Firm has been added to our Resources library. Included are American Vistas, Farming, Town Events, Jobs & Labor, and Schools. All HD for your editing pleasure.

And if you don’t know what a student folder is… well, just never mind this post then.
Not that anyone’s reading this over break, but more music has been added to our Footage Firm collection. This addition includes Rock, Metal, Modern Fusion, DJ Beats, Unplugged, and Ambient music, among other styles. This brings our total Footage Firm collection to 163 discs with a total of more than 9000 tracks to choose from. We’ve even got loops for making your own tracks too. If you can’t find a good cut of music in there for your project, you’re just not trying.
Access the collection by mounting the Resources share point on your machine. Web authentication for access to Resources, Tutorials and other areas on the GCC server is still broken, so follow the directions published on this very website to mount the Resources share on your Mac or PC. Look inside the Music folder, then Footage Firm. If you sort the folder by date modified you can easily find the newest additions to the collection.
The large format printer is down. Parts are ordered and should be here tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Filesharing on GCC is working again. Another Active Directory issue combined with a permission issue on the server itself. Sorry for any inconvenience.
